Bananthi Mari trek

One of the smallest trek done.Located near Kanakapura town.Less known betta is mistaken to be in Ramanagar.

A group of 20 BASC members decided to find this beautiful place on 12th July,on a cloudly sunday morning. Four cars to help us reach our destination,we started around 7:30 in the morning from Banashankari bus stop. Bangalore to Kanakapura is one of the beautiful roads around Bangalore, one can travel. continuously changing landscapes and the cool weather is bound to get you all energized. But a trek without food is incomplete, its like Indian cricket without Sachin Tendulkar :P

And so we stopped at the very famous Vasu Hotel in Kanakapura, known for their famous Masala Dosa. For all you foodies out there,it's heaven in every bite plus free leg pulling sessions from the group members to make sure every plate of dosa ordered is licked clean :P
From the town the betta is around 4-5km. Locals are the best GPS system if your not sure of the way.The narrow road that leads to the betta, makes you feel like sticking your head out like a dog in the car and taking in what the world outside gotta offer. Beautiful,Beautiful,Beautiful Scenery!
At the entrance of the hill, there are few houses and the watch person for the betta. If the group is big,one has to take permission from the forest official and probably pay the man a few extra.Since we were unaware of this,it took away a lot of our trek time.

To watch the trail of trekkers in a single file walking towards the betta, looked like a team on a
mission, and when we reached the first water source, a small pond at the base of the hill,"bring out the cameras,Location selection, the right angle and now let the photo shoot begin" :P Yes,even I am charged guilty.:D
Quiet a few rocky faces to climb, mite look challenging for the first timers, but then once you've done it, "its no big deal." Huffing and puffing while climbing up the hill is part of the deal, once your half way there, your rewarded with a beautiful sight to behold. And then its the second photoshoot location of the day :P
Another few mins climb, your on top of the world,or rather on top on the betta :D Snack time for the hungry photographers and their models both men & women alike. That was soon followed by the introduction round with more leg pulling sessions and finding out that the angel and devil resides in every human,Yes Srinidhi this includes you too,the group was being very kind to you that day by not digging for skeletons in your closet :P
If your wondering how did we reach the top, without getting lost,we were guided by three experts, who knew the hill like the back of their hands, the three musketeers, the three local kids of the village.Happy to show us the way. :)

After the intro round,it was time to head back,we took another route and it didn't feel like we had climbed a hill,Pretty much a straight path.We were walking through a small valley between the hills.A nature trail, walking through the vegetation of the land, lot of bamboo at the region, small rocks forming natural steps to get down.My favourite part of the trek trail.Really wanted to keep on walking. The trail leads you to a small temple of the villagers, were that day few ceremonies were taking place. From the temple the trail lead down to a pond, another picturesque location and now the girls couldn't help themselves, out came the colorful umbrellas, click! click! click! :) Lets wrap up,it's time to leave now.the trail should lead you back to the same spot where you had started.Their are other routes that the villagers take.

The only motivation to get back on the road was food!to find a place to eat.On way the back to Bangalore we found a nice restaurant to have veg food and relax for a bit.It was way to early to get back to Bangalore. We were, finding out other places to visit. We girls wanted to see the TK falls, even when the guys had warned us,not to expect to much from the place. Candrakala's (CK) determination, made sure we went there. Therefore, a tag line was created,"CK wants to see TK".
Truly speaking, TK falls is an absolute waste of time even during the monsoon season. From there we were deciding where to go next,Chat street of Bangalore was a strong contender for the polls, but we finally agreed on Adigas on the highway. The final halt for the team. It's always fun to watch frens in a group attacking food which leads to more laughter & fun. From there we reached Banshankari bus stop in no time, from where the trip had started.

It was fun catching up with old pals and also making many more friends.A trek with BASC is always fun, it doesn't matter which hill your climbing, how far or close the destination is.Tagging along with people of the same interest makes your weekend hours well spent.

Happy days!
